Well, the wolves are settled in pretty well. And they're really social with me, which is good. I'm working hard on getting Izanami and Amaterasu to really trust me and consider me as part of their pack so that way they won't freak out when I need to check on their pups when they eventually have litters. Also, thank god I have my family close by, too. I'll be going around to some of the other zoos that have wolves at them to makes sure that their wolves are doing well, and making sure that they're doing some of the same things I am for consistency. There aren't many experts on wolves in Japan, so apparently, I'm in high demand.

Oh my god, life has been insane since the exhibit opened. It's a miracle I still have a voice from how much I talk all day, every day. The wolves are incredibly popular, and they're gradually adapting to the crowds and becoming more social. It's good to see them out and about in their enclosures, and the webcams are full of hits every day, too. People from all over the world watch the wolves in their enclosures, which spreads awareness for their species. I'm really happy about that part, because that means people all over the world care about them and want them and their wild relatives to thrive and prosper.

Now, I need more hot tea. With lemon. And honey.

names

Well, we've finally decided on names for the four wolves who will hopefully be ready to greet the public before July gets here. For the Honshu pair, the female will be Amaterasu, and the male will be Susano. And the Hokkaido  female will be Izanami, and the male will be Izanagi. Admin was pretty insistent on going with Shinto deity names, so I think we chose well.

Well, while I'm still ticked I missed meeting Salty's litter in person, I am glad I can look online and see them. At nine days old, they'll be opening their eyes soon, which is awesome. Moose, ever the protective dad, keeps camping out on top of the den, which is neat of him. Since I'm still waiting on them to finish the enclosures for the Honshu pair and the Hokkaido pair, there's not a lot for me to do at work right now. Aside from getting them used to me, that is. Still working on names for the four, we're debating posing a contest online so people can suggest names for them. I think that would be cool, but I'm also still trying to talk the zoo into installing cameras in the exhibits for people to follow online. It would get more of the public involved and interested in the four of them.

Shit, I don't even know where to start. There's some new hotshot that Hyoutei hired to teach, dude comes with a laundry list of degrees and qualifications. So that means he's got to earn mega money since those degrees pretty much demand a minimum pay scale. Which means budget cuts in other areas. Which means I got axed. Effective as of Friday. Arashi is crushed that she won't get to hang out with the tennis team anymore, and I'm....numb. I just...gods, what do I even feel? Anger? Injustice? Depressed? Fear over how to make ends meet? It's Daichi's first Christmas with us and I wanted it to be so great and wonderful, and now....I don't know how well I'll be able to fake a smile for him. I don't know what to do.

Well....all I can say is thank god for medical leave covering spouses at Hyoutei. I'm on paid leave until Hiro is well enough to be left on his own and able to get around enough to go to physical therapy, since he decided to check himself out of the hospital AMA and not call me to come and get him. Thank you everyone who kept me sane while he was in there, especially the first couple of days. I'd be in worse shape than my husband without you all. So if anyone needs to get in touch with either of us, we'll both be at home. Someone has to enforce bed-rest, after all.

Get your Advent Calendars here! No, seriously, my homeroom class is selling Advent Calendars this year. Yes, I know, I teach at Hyotei, the school of the rich. It's a sort of service learning thing, I don't really understand why. But I'm a competitive guy, so I want to beat my peers. So come on, guys, buy some chocolate!

Well, I haven't put anything up here for a while, so I figure I am well overdue. Atobe, thanks for that trip to that island, it was a great getaway and honeymoon. School's going well, next year's regulars are training hard. There's been so many typhoons lately, though.

I've got the final fitting for my tux next week, and, god, how is July already half over? This month is just flying by faster than I was expecting it to! But with tournaments going and wedding planning and fittings, it's just go go go. Still, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well, the inevitable has occurred. My little girl has been struck down with the might chicken pox. And since my parents are out of town, thus leaving me with no babysitter, I'm having to use sick leave. But that's ok, she's worth it. And Rio is the best. He's just curled up right next to her on the couch with his chew toy, and he even nudges her hand away any time she starts to scratch herself. I seriously owe the little guy for that. Still, Arashi has been cranky, not that I blame her. Itching everywhere and not being able to sleep well is hardly my idea of fun. Well, guess I better go get some chores done before she wakes up from her nap.

Time flies

I can't believe it's already the end of January. Where did this month go? With everything going on, I guess time just flew right past me. And now I'm coming upon the prospect of having to corral preteens on one of the worst holidays ever for order and productivity in a classroom. That's right, this will be my first Valentines Day as a teacher. *shudder* Thankfully, my own plans have been scheduled for that weekend, which shouldn't be an issue in any way since Arashi will be my my parents. Though I've been informed that on Valentines Day itself, we're watching Disney princess movies because the princesses always fall in love and get to marry their princes. In four year old logic, it's the perfect way to celebrate a holiday that's all about love. And speaking of the four year old, her birthday is in less than two months. Which means that she'll be starting kindergarten this spring. Am I ready for this? Ready for her to be in school and not just day care? Does she really have to grow up? How much longer until she comes home talking about having a boyfriend? *sigh* I need to stop overthinking this, I know. But, how can I not think about it, you know?

New year

The new year has come and gone, and now I'm back at work. I found out that my brother is moving overseas, so now my parents are being even more clingy. They haven't asked me to move back home, because they know I won't, but they have asked if I would consider a new arrangement for them getting time with Arashi. They want to take her every other weekend from now on. I asked her if she was ok with that, and she seemed excited. I know she likes listening to them tell her stories about me when I was a kid, and they love her to bits, so I guess I can deal with it.

In other news, I took that color test thing that everyone's talking about. It's a load of shit. I'm not even gonna dignify posting any of the results that I got because they were such crap! The test said it was supposed to be "fun." Lame ass quiz was a waste of my time.

[ooc: With the loss of our Ohtori, I'm resetting Shishido's romantic history. Therefore, his post when he was sick and whining about being single and not having time to date is now irrelevant.]

Seriously, can it be winter break? My students are starting to grate on my last nerve. The third years are all starting to panic about exams and who's continuing here for high school and who's moving on. I know more about the love lives of my second years than I ever needed or wanted to know, because that's all they talk about. And my first years are bouncing off the walls thinking that next year they can be the kings and queens of the school. Hello, they'll only be second years!. That's like the worst year ever! You still have the third years above you bossing you around, and you have all the upstart, snot nosed first years coming in trying to act all high and mighty! I seriously think I'm going to lose my temper and end up yelling in at least one of my classes between this week and next.

On the bright side, laid back Sunday was awesome. Arashi and I had pancakes, watched the good star wars movies, then watched Totoro and Ponyo, and ordered sushi for dinner. I think pajama Sunday might need to become a monthly tradition at my place. It was so nice to just relax and not worry about anything.
gekidazejanai: (in charge)
Ah, geeze, I can tell break is getting close. My classes are getting restless, and the team's been so hyper I don't think we're getting in enough practice. Add to that the fact that we've had to move to the indoor courts because it's too cold and nasty to practice outside, and ibuprofen has been my friend for a while now. I seriously think I'm going to spend my time tonight writing evil pop quizzes to give my classes if they get this rowdy again in the next few days. Maybe include some stuff we're just getting ready to cover to see who's actually doing the assigned readings. At least Arashi has been good these last few days. I think she knows I'm stressed out, and I feel bad for that. I'll have to make it up to her this weekend. Maybe Sunday we'll have a lazy day and watch movies all day.
